The Glades U-18 Team pushed their unbeaten streak to nine games this past weekend with a sweep of the CD Selects. Both games however were some of the worst hockey the Glades have played all year long and they should not be satisfied with their performance.
The Glades won Saturday night with a 5-3 margin and barley squeaked out a win in Overtime on Sunday, 5-4. The most disappointing part of the weekend was that the Glades were playing to move up to fourth place, where the Selects were out of the playoffs and had nothing to play for.
The Glades were outworked and out willed through both games and at times were lucky to get a couple bounces to get scoring opportunities or to prevent scoring opportunities. It was clear from the drop of the puck on Saturday to the final buzzer on Sunday that the Selects wanted the games more than the Glades.
Before this weekend, the Glades were hitting their stride, and were peaking just in time for playoffs. They had started their win streak the first weekend in February and had swept three weekends in a row that included victories over the NE Huskies, Valley Jr. Warriors, and the Syracuse Stars. They then prepared for a battle with Eastern Conference powerhouse, NH Monarchs and played one of their best games to date forcing the Monarchs to get a last minute goal to tie 2-2. This past weekend had no resemblance of the team that had become successful through hard work and execution.
The Glades U-18 Team will be reminded at practice on Tuesday, that you must be ready to play and compete for 60 minutes, regardless of your competition.
