Program Overview

Mission Statement

The Green Mountain Glades goal is to provide an alternative for student athletes by allowing them to play high caliber hockey with considerable exposure to local and national college programs. All Glades players will be student athletes. Each is expected to strive for academic and athletic excellence as they use hockey to help open collegiate doors for the future.

Program Overview

The Glades play a fast-paced, puck moving style of hockey to prepare players for a collegiate career. Team members are recruited through various training camps, referrals and inquiries. All players are highly motivated and are ready to dedicate themselves to the game in preparation of moving to the next level.

Academic Plan

The goal of the Glades is to have all players move on to play college hockey. Every rostered player shall identify an academic plan and be enrolled in classes. Those who have yet to graduate from high school will be enrolled in a local high school. Players who come to the Glades as post-graduates must take higher education courses. Post-graduate academic requirements vary from player to player and shall be selected with input from the Coach/General Manager, parents and the player.

The Burlington area boasts a wealth of academic opportunities, including six high schools (one private), and several colleges that include Burlington College, Champlain College, Community College of Vermont, St. Michael's College and the University of Vermont. CCV is a Glades' corporate sponsor and offers subsidized tuition to Glades players.

NCAA Opportunities
Vermont is home to four highly touted college hockey programs. The Gutterson Fieldhouse, where the Glades play their home games is home to one of the most successful Division I programs in the country, the University of Vermont Catamounts. 1999 NCAA Division II champion, St. Michael's College, is located in the greater Burlington area. Located within 45 minutes of Burlington are five-time defending NCAA Division III champion, Middlebury College; 1999 NCAA Division III semi-finalist, Norwich University and perennial NCAA Division III powerhouse Plattsburgh State.

Community
Ranked as one of the safest and most livable cities in the United States, Burlington, VT has a tradition of supporting athletes. The UVM Hockey Cats and Vermont Lake Monsters routinely play in front of sold out crowds. During their inaugural season, the Glades drew crowds ranging from 200-1200 people.
A wealth of cultural and recreational opportunities also exist for Glades players and their parents. Located in the Burlington area are the Flynn Theater, St. Michael's Playhouse, the Shelburne Museum, great restaurants, shopping and an extensive bike path with breath-taking views of Lake Champlain and the Adirondack Mountains.
Community Service
Several members of the team visit the JFK Elementary School in Winooski where coach Christian Soucy talks to the children and encourages them to devise short and long term goals for their lives. The players share their goals with the children and spend time playing with them.
